Frequently cylinder tubes need restorative honing or “crosshatching”. The long bed hone can save time and cost.
Sometimes a cylinder may just need restorative cleaning, resealing, reassembly and testing – by experienced, qualified mechanics.
Analysis of the disassembled parts may reveal structural or dimensional problems such as a gland, piston, tube or rod that must be replaced.
Correct disassembly and reassembly are critical to good performance. Accurate piston nut torque is one example of an important issue in reassembly.
